PADI IDC Bali - PADI IDC Preparation

BALI IDCPrior to beginning your PADI IDC, you want to ensure that you are adequately prepared and there are no surprises.

There are a number of prerequisites that must be met, prior to any participation in a PADI IDC:

  • You must be at least 18 years of age.
  • You must submit a medical statement verifying that you are fit for diving and signed by a physician within the last 12 months.
  • Submit proof of CPR training within the last 24 months. The PADI EFR course fulfills this requirement.
  • You should be a renewed PADI Divemaster or PADI Assistant Instructor, or a current Instructor affiliated with another certification agency.
  • Prior to starting the IDC, you must have been a certified diver for a minimum of 6 months and logged at least 60 dives.
  • Prior to attending the IE, you must have been a certified diver for a minimum of 6 months and logged at least 100 dives.
  • You are required to provide photocopies of all previous diving certifications along with photocopies of your last five log pages.

You will also need to ensure that you have all the necessary materials for the IDC.

Effective 1 January, 2006

Minimum Required Materials: The PADI Dive Center, Resort, Course Director and/or IDC Staff Instructor conducting a course must ensure that instructor candidates have, in their possession, a personal set of materials (as defined in the list of required materials for the course), for study and use during the course and for reference afterward, unless the materials are not available in a language understood by the candidate.

If you already have many items then you will only need to pruchase the items that you do not have. For this you should look at the prices beside each individual item.

Now that you know that you can participate in an IDC, and that you have the right materials and equipment, it is time to prepare the rest.

First of all, familiarize yourself with the Instructor Manual. This is one of the most important things that you can do as this is your tool with which to teach. Look at the latest issues of The Undersea Journal & Training Bulletins to make sure you are up to date with any recent changes in standards.

Practice your dive theory (physics, physiology, the RDP, skills & environment and equipment). The best way is to work through the new Encyclopedia of Recreational diving and the workbook, before moving onto the Divemaster exams.

Your aim should be to know every right answer, and also you should know why every wrong answer is wrong!

The candidates must now complete all course knowledge reviews prior to the start of the IDC. These knowledge reviews can be found inside the Instructor candidate workbook.

Get Wet!

BALI IDCGo diving to make sure that you are comfortable in the water. Quite often Instructor candidates will not have dived for some time so it good to make sure that you are familiar with your equipment.

Try and help on as many PADI courses as possible, prior to the IDC.

Practice your diving skills - you especially need to focus on the 20 skills from the PADI Divemaster Skill evaluation slate. Make sure that you can perform all of these skills comfortably with demonstration quality. Buoyancy skills, CESA, and mask skills tend to be prime skills that the Examiners like to test so make sure that you have these skills honed.

During the IDC and IE, you will be required to perform a rescue exercise. You should try and practice Rescue diver exercise #7.

Now take time to relax. The IDC is not something to fear. You will look back on it as one of the most rewarding courses you will have done.
